Mechanical Specs

Acceptable File Types:

PDF: Embed all fonts, do not subset fonts. Be sure RGB graphics are converted to correct color mode and 266 or higher resolution.
Color management should be disabled. Prefer properly sized, placeable image without slugs and printer marks. Printer marks are not required, but if used, they should be 0.25 from outside of trim. Preferred pdf format is Press Quality or PDF/X-1a:2001.

Adobe InDesign: Be sure to supply all fonts and graphics. Transparent effects will be flattened.

Adobe Illustrator and compatible EPS files: Be sure to supply all fonts and graphics or convert all type to outlines, and embed images. All transparent effects must be flattened.

Adobe Photoshop: We prefer flattened TIFF files. Native Photoshop files (.psd) or layered TIFF files (.tif) are acceptable. Be sure to supply all fonts or rasterize type layers. Image must be set to CMYK mode and be sure file is a minimum of 266 dpi at the final ad size.

QuarkXpress: Be sure to supply all fonts and graphics.

Production Charges: Charges will be added for conversion of files that do not follow the following requirements or for revisions/additions to furnished files. Ads that are not accompanied by the required proofs will be charged to have one made.

We cannot guarantee reproduction of ads that are set up incorrectly or missing the required proofs.

Acceptable Graphic Types:

Continuous tone/halftone: 266 dpi, black & white graphics must be set to grayscale mode, 4-color graphics must be set to cmyk mode, files saved as a TIFF or EPS. Do not save files with "JPEG" compression.

Lineart: 1200 dpi, must be set to bitmap mode, saved as tiff.

Vector graphics – 4 color graphics: colors must be cmyk breakdowns, saved as EPS.

Spot-color graphics: Colors must be set to appropriate
spot colors, saved as EPS or DCS2. Vector graphics using transparent
effects must be flattened.

Mechanical Requirements for Inserts

Contact production manager for insert specifications (size, stock, binding, shipping).
Sample of insert must be submitted for mechanical clearance and pricing.

Proofs Required:

All ads must be accompanied by a single page, composite proof. 4-color ads require a Digital Matchprint, Rainbow, Fuji or Kodak digital color proof. Color lasers will be used as a general color guide only, not for color matching. Spot-color ads require a composite, color proof indicating color usage. Black and white lasers are acceptable for grayscale ads.

The above types of color proofs must be provided with color ads. If one is not provided, one will be made at a cost of $50.00 net.

Ads must be accompanied by the proofs specified above to guarantee satisfactory reproduction.

Issuance and Closing Date
Publishing Date: 5th of month of issue.
Closing Date: 1st of preceding month.
Cancellation Date: No cancellation after 1st of preceding month.

General

Publisher's Copy Protective Clause: Advertiser and advertising agency assume liability for all content of advertisements printed, and also assume responsibility for any claims arising therefrom made against the publisher. Publisher reserves the right to reject any advertising. Publisher is not responsible for errors in key numbers, index of advertisers or Reader Service Card numbers.

Short Rates and Rebates: Advertisers will be short rated if within the 12-month period they do not use the number of insertions upon which their billings have been based. Advertisers will be rebated if within the 12-month period they have used sufficient insertions to earn a lower frequency rate appearing on this card.

Rate Protection Clause: A minimum of 90 days notice will be given preceding any rate increase. On effective date of new rates, earned frequency on space run to date will apply to new rates. Contracts in force at time of rate announcement will be honored.

Publisher reserves right to hold advertiser and/or its advertising agency jointly and severally liable for such monies as are due and payable to the publisher.
